TN-KY Academy FAQs
We will update this page frequently as questions come in!
Can I take courses that occur on the same day(s)?
While you can apply for overlapping courses, you can only take one class at a time. Should you be selected for one or more overlapping classes you will have to drop all but one. Instructions for dropping courses will be provided in student selection letters.

I'm not receiving confirmation emails - what should I do?
It's very likely your spam blockers are preventing emails. First, be sure to double-check your spam and quarantine folders. Additionally, if you would like to add a personal email address to your account, please send us an email and we will be happy to assist. Finally, if possible, add the email address tnkywfa@eventsairmail.com to your Safe Senders List. EventsAir is the database we use to handle registrations, payments, and communications.

I am not affiliated with a state, municipal, federal, other land management agency, or university. Can I still apply for the Academy?
No. The TN-KY Wildland Fire Academy is reserved for NWCG agencies and partners. If you are not employed by, or affiliated, with one of these organizations you will not be accepted into courses. Contractors who meet NWCG qualifications may apply.

I'm interested in becoming a wildland firefighter. How can I get involved?
There are many different avenues you can take to become a wildland firefighter. Many entry level positions will provide the required training to become qualified as a Firefighter Type 2.
1. Check your state's Department/Division of Forestry website for job postings.
2. All federal agency positions are posted and applied for through USAJOBS. This includes the National Park Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and US Forest Service.
3. The Southern Region of the US Forest Service hosts a Wildland Firefighter Recruitment Camp annually in June. This is a great opportunity to learn what the job is all about with lots of hands-on experience. For more information, click here.
